"Bush has been steadfast in the WOT but the iraq
adventure has spoiled that perception. We have a couple of
months to get back on track."

Sorry Mike, that's not true. It wasn't an "adventure" in
Iraq. Removing Saddam was a legitimate part of the WOT.
You may let the liberal left & the liberal media spin
reality for you, but I understand the stakes in the WOT.

Iraq had all the ingredients to further the danger of
global terrorism & regional stability in the ME. I don't
need to spell them out again any more than I need to
listen to someone revise history to create negative
perceptions about the Bush Admin regarding Iraq.

As for Rummy, I say keep him on. As much as this prison
abuse scandal is horrific, it needs to be put in
perspective. I'm certain those who were involved will be
severly punished. It will be a transparent process. Right
now the liberal left & the liberal media are hyping this
to the max & we don't even know the full extent of what
actually has happened.

It's a strange world where Palestinians video tape the
slaughter of a pregnant mother & her 4 children. The media
reports it as freedom fighters kill 5 settlers - end of
story. This is a common practice every time it happens.
Yet the prison abuse scandal rages in the headlines for
more than a week. Don't tell me there's not something
seriously wrong here.

As for the economy, yes Bush did one hell of a job with
the burst Nasdaq bubble & the recession he inherited, then
the horrific impact on the economy of 9/11. And once again
the liberal left & the liberal media have done their very
best to revise history to create the impression that the
economy today is still very weak & it's all Bush's fault.

Yup, there is a clear pattern here.

Stop Kerry by throwing the bad guys some red meat.

Throw the bad guys some red meat in order to get re-elected?

Assuming "bad guys" means the other party (and not Arab public opinion) - who do you think will swing their vote due to a Rumsfeld resignation?

How will Rumsfeld leaving bring closure to the issue? The pictures/investigations/hearings will continue rolling, right?

That's not politics, it is desperate appeasement. If it happens now it will not only be bad politics, but bad PR.

Rumsfeld should read his apology and then get right back up in Teddy's fat face... Make sure he points out what this really is - terrorists, media, and party hacks attempting to paint the US with one big bloody brush based on the actions of a few criminals...

He should be sure to throw out a few "Senator, stop generalizing - doing so implies that all of our sons and daughters in Iraq are somehow criminals. And I know you would not do that."

A great setup for the 70's footage of Kerry's testimony... which should begin running regularly this summer.

Stop Kerry by throwing the bad guys some red meat. Mike, when was the last time you ever threw a mad dog a hunk of meat, that they said "Thank You", and didn't want more?

If Rumsfeld quits, or leaves, ALL Americans will feel the loss. For a very long time, IMO.

I too respect Bush for stating his confidence in him, even if the left can, and probably will, use that for political reasons.

The story isn't through on this situation yet, not by any stretch. As he said, it will get worse, PR wise. We don't know yet WHY these people who participated in the outrageous behaviors did it....

Were they the products of a very liberal country that is so 'me centered' that they didn't pay any attention to their training?

Were they trained enough, or did we (Senators and House) provide enough funds to do adequate training?

Were they see so many videos, MTV, movies, and video games that seemed to show that whatever they did was 'mild' compared to what they were watching?

TWT.
