Ten,

re: Is the sensationalism going to help prevent cover-ups in the future, especially with a press corp more eager to persecute our soldiers over those who murdered and mutilated Americans?

Yes. You don't really understand democracy, do you? It's all about holding yourself to a higher standard. Setting an example that hopefully gets respected and emulated.

That's what this country is about. Not about making excuses that because they did it first, then we can do it. That is not a strategy, or a moral position, that makes the world a better place, incrementally, into the future. We are supposed to make the world better, not worse. That's what our pride is based on. That's America in a nutshell.

This is a very, very sad chapter in US history. But I'm suprised that the Bush administration is starting to handle it with humility and a small measure of grace. Let's see how they follow through. Let's see if they have learned any lessons. Because God knows, under their very short watch, they have done more harm to this country than any other administration.
