Heard this morning on Tim Russert's show that the father and uncle of one of the people charged in this prison scandal were responsible for the publication of the photos. They wrote a letter to Russert saying that they mainly wanted to prevent their son/nephew from being scapegoated. They tried to keep it quiet, but neither people at the Pentagon nor people in Congress would respond to their call for help. After getting no responses from those people, they contacted Hackworth through his website, who put them in touch with 60 Minutes. The uncle said something like, they (the Pentagon people) thought we were just bumpkins from Kentucky who couldn't do anything; they were wrong.

Was watching Stephanapoulos at the same time, so may have something slightly garbled here, but the substance of the above is in the main correct, according to the letter read on the show.

Mr. Moon,
You are sincere in your beliefs and also intellectually honest. Maybe?
It is revealing that you think I may find this development unsatisfactory, !
I find this very positive! I feel as good as that day when Saddam agreed to give the Inspectors unconditional access. Did you review this?

Your guys are going to squash it, not my guys.
All this la-de-da Poltical stuff is the background music. What counts is who signs the contracts and the checks. If our usual suspects are excluded, KBR may have to start doing some serious bookkeeping. What matters is who decides the headings on the accounts payable. No bid, no records, no accountability may result in no contract if the technocrats get decision authority. Somebody tell Chalabi to drop off new signature cards.

Brahimi more or less said this. He told our politicos to butt out. Politics got us in to this, maybe the grown-ups taking over can get us out. I shared some misgivings about structure here.

And I drew the organizational chart here...

Please explain if this is 20/20 hind sight. I would like to get a grip on this concept, finally.

Being a military type, you should understand the importance of me having the proper ammunition when engaging in a battle of wits.

Thank goodness I wasn't in your chain of command...
