Heard this morning on Tim Russert's show that the father and uncle of one of the people charged in this prison scandal were responsible for the publication of the photos. They wrote a letter to Russert saying that they mainly wanted to prevent their son/nephew from being scapegoated. They tried to keep it quiet, but neither people at the Pentagon nor people in Congress would respond to their call for help. After getting no responses from those people, they contacted Hackworth through his website, who put them in touch with 60 Minutes. The uncle said something like, they (the Pentagon people) thought we were just bumpkins from Kentucky who couldn't do anything; they were wrong. Was watching Stephanapoulos at the same time, so may have something slightly garbled here, but the substance of the above is in the main correct, according to the letter read on the show.
