New Zealand troops are confined to barracks when fighting breaks out in Basra, but are reported to be "safe" - I should think so. They'll be even safer when they go home, tail between their legs, like the Spanish.

Oh, here we go, they were not supposed to fight. "The 61 NZ army engineers were sent to Iraq's southern area of Basra to help rebuilding schools and water plants and other humanitarian aid."
