The problem with your argument is that Kerry was entitled to change his mind - ONCE.

He can't simultaneously be a war hero for serving in the war, a moral hero for being against the war, and a moral hero and a war hero for being for the war again.

He can't simultaneously take every possible position on every important issue, although he certainly tries!

Like the thing with the cars. He's in favor of cars when he talks to auto workers, but says he only has American cars, forgetting about the Audi and the Land Rover. And then when he talks to environmentalists, he has no cars.

He's a greed head. He has to pick one position and stick with it.

There is an excellent article in the new New Yorker about Kerry's career as a prosecuting atty. and heading a DA's office. (It is in the same issue as the second Seymour Hersh Abu article but is not available yet for posting) It is not just complementary but it also shows his courage as well as penchant for publicity. He is a very hard worker and stays up later at night then does W-- actually working. When he was DA, he also took on very difficult cases that he did not need to(other than for good publicity--but he could have also lost the gamble) and accomplished many things that W would not be capable of doing.
