Wars never go according to plan. You want to be careful about sacking people who are responsible for a mistake unless you really think you have a better replacement available.

None of this had to happen if the war and post war had been handled better.

No doubt about it.

I'd like to know who was responsible for disbanding the Iraqi army in the face of troop levels that couldn't prevent widespread looting.

Hubris, hubris...we dealt with Saddam so swiftly and so effectively we began to believe our own......male bovine manure.

Noneheless, I think we do need to keep some perspective on the issue. It's inflammatory because it contradicts our own notions of who we are and what we do but it also, ironically, shows our strengths, our ability to hold those who are responsible accountable pursuant to laws and procedures that work, something the Muslim world is seeing in action and which should open some eyes. This is positive.
