Ultimately it does not. What you cite here is simply the means by which clerics are credentialed. That is no heirarchy. The clerics are not held accountable to any authority in the same way priests are held in the Catholic church. Therefore to compare clerics and priests is leftist stupidity.

When millions of muslims respond in the name of allah with support and overt joy at one of their leaders' murderous calls, when tens of thousands of muslims plot to murder innocent unattached people all in the name of allah, and when this happens without a significantly counter-defining challenge from any other muslim, I have seen the only islam that matters. The rest of these "islams" truly do not exist. They have no authority and are worthless.

The Catholic system is not sending 80,000, 90,000, perhaps upwards of a 100,000 muslims across the earth to take off my head. But islam is. The Catholic system, as flawed as it is, is still policing itself when it encounters behavior not in keeping with its identity. It provides a substantially powerful counter-defining force that isolates the ill-behavior to which you refer. And just take a look around. Christians, not merely Catholics, but Protestants and Catholics decried the behavior on the basis of the shared moral view, a view informed by essential Christianity and, most importantly, heads are rolling and the activity has ceased. No such force exists in islam that counters the only islam that matters.
