Sorry, I thought it came as an e-mail. Why don't you try running Ad-aware or a similar program and see if it eliminates the problem.

popups and notifications from MicroSoft ...

I've posted several times in the past concerning an elderly friend of mine who has had continual difficulties with his computer

and he has used the phrase >>> "notified by Microsoft" or "from Microsoft "

I highly suspect that there is a massive error here ...
and, indeed, I confirmed it with him after the third infection problem

the popups OR internal banners which are all too readily identified as being from MicroSoft ...
ain't

I was luckily at his house and watching him surf the net to see if I could tell what was happening ...

yep ... one "banner" from a site that he visits multiple times daily had a "notice" and he thought it was FROM MS ...

to my knowledge *(admittedly feeble)
MS uses no popups
MS uses no emails

this is NOT from MS, but a trap for the relatively unknowing person

I have finally pounded it into the head of my buddy .... but it was difficult as the "notice" surely appears to be official ....
