Why?

Qualcomm has NEVER had perfect visibility. There have been both positive and negative developments numerous times in the past....and they will be surprised again in the future.

If Qualcomm had been able to forecast the current upturn in November '03, they would have secured quite a bit more fab capacity. The farther out they forecast, the dicier the forecasts become. Personally, I think the numbers they gave could prove to be conservative, but there are plenty of things that could go wrong....and have in the past.

We've had to suffer through technology delays, Korean subsidy bans, political problems with China, currency changes, SARS, terrorism and probably another dozen things that I'm not remembering right now. As I stated before, I think that these estimates would have to be very conservative or risking the credibility that they have gained over the last two years wouldnt make much sense.
