Actually I've been thinking about your mini-nuke hypothesis (not the fake airplanes) and it does make a lot of sense. It would certainly have been very easy to install in the basement and to set-off by radio-control and its use does not preclude the "assistance" of smaller devices higher up in the tower to control the implosion.
