Minimum Distributions- Don't think there is law on this -

This is why I like some of the US style trusts, like SJT.

Look at their management overhead -

go to about page 8 -14 of anaual report at -

sjbrt.com

income 176 mill

capex 21 mill
taxes 18 mill
operating exp 16 mill
gen. & admin 1.7 mill

Availible for dist - 90 mill

SJT has a long reserve life.

Other trusts like this are CRT,HGT, BPT (quarterly, Alaskan oil).

Having one or two very efficent trusts and a diversification (like energy split) provides a degree of protection from management losing a bunch trying to make more...

Don't think there is a minimum ... I believe SJT actually ceased payouts for quite a few months a few years back...

Edit... they don't buy new reserves on your side of the border, right ? so one less thing to mess up ;o)
