The label "social liberal" isn't useful. People who believe in economic freedom claim it as well as people who don't. It covers the spectrum from ultra libertarians who think anything more than a 2% tax rate is slavery up to virtual collectivists.

Labels can be useful short hand in the big political debate but we all have to agree on what they mean or it's just noise. If you say you are a social liberal, and Paul Wellstone said he was a social liberal, haven't we just confused everyone?

Funny how certain people who come here to straighten us
out firmly perceive we all share the same cup for our Kool
Aid. If they actually paid any attention, they'd see how
far removed from reality their misperceptions happen to be.

"Many of the people here would describe themselves the
same way. We don't all have to be in "lockstep." "
