Do gooding is not a left/right issue. The issue that divides the left and right is that the left believes in forcing people to engage in charity at the point of a gun, and the right believes in freely given charity.

We do need folks in the world who care about things greater than their portfolios.
That would put them on the left both here and in Israel.

And before you lecture me on making intemperate comments that turn large numbers of people off:

We do need folks in the world who care about things greater than their portfolios.

You can't do both? If you aren't a collectivist it's only because the only thing you care about is your portfolio?

Do-gooders know no political boundries, michael. Those of us who try to help in whatever way we can are not doing it for a political reason. I personally think that people make their own decisions.

Because of your statement, it made me wonder how many on the so called right, would have gone to a war zone without permission. Also wonder how many on the left do just that.

My personal guess is that some of the folks in the US, if they felt the need/desire to go to that war zone, they would have asked permission of the US Government to go. Some of the other folks who go evidently don't feel the same need.

Are the folks who go without permission expecting other people to watch over them, and protect them?

That would put them on the left both here and in Israel
