<"American Gold." This is indicative of a historic respect for the US currency all around the world.>

And gold.

<one gets the feel that US govt. debt and US dollars will be tolerated for a much longer period than would be the case for a Latin American country>

It certainly has been in the past as well!! OTOH, if things continue to worsen we all know what happens once a currency IS labeled in such a way as 'Latin currencies'.

Malcolm,

for the record, I find myself disagreeing with most of what the Fed governors publishes, especially those of the Chairman. However, I do find them very informative because via their jawboning efforts, they are telegraphing what they want the masses to believe.

If they do not see certain issues as a problem, they would not even address it. As for the US$, I think the Feds realize it is imperative that the world continous to regard it as the global currency.

By the way, are you Chinese or just fluent?
