"and you expect them to beg to get their land back"

No, they could go back to the terms of Oslo or a similar deal -- a mediated peace without terrorism or military action.

"So he's offering a trade"

Sharon is offering nothing but to leave gaza, there's no trade. The sides are not talking, Israel is acting unilaterrally. It has no choice, the PA don't communicate, at least lately, other than through violence.

"And Sharon's behavior brings hardship to the Israelis"

Friend of mine recently returned from a three week vacation in Israel. He had a great time, exploring old ruins and seeing the religious sites. He even did a spot of gambling for a few nights with Arab folk from, I'm not sure where, but not Israel, at the Hilton in Sinai, right across from the border with Israel. The Taba Hilton, or something like that. Four star hotel for $100 a night, or was it $200, either way, cheap classy place to stay. Life is pretty good for Israelis of all stripes.
