This whole "hate America" thing has been totally twisted. What people tend not to like about America is some of the backward policies like those being persued by the current Adminstration. Such as, forget about doing something rational like starting a massive energy conservation campaign and promoting energy alternatives to kick our oil habit, let's just attack another country. Wars are regressive, as we've seen this war is killing our prestige in the world. I think what most people don't understand about "America haters" is that they actually want to take a more enlightened approach to American policy, and that approach might be at odds with the American way of doing things, so it's perceived as hating America.

Check this bombshell out:

Berg Video: "Someone with U.S. military cap seen in frame"

INN World Report | May 18 2004

The controversial website " La Voz de Aztlan" did probably find yet another "smoking gun" in the final frames of the Berg Video: "At frames 9306 through 9368, a person with a US military cap temporarily pokes about a quarter of his left head into the video."

The most telling evidence that the video of the decapitation of Nicholas Berg was taken inside the Abu Ghraib prison can only be detected by performing a frame by frame analysis. La Voz de Aztlan did just that and some revealing frames came up that are difficult to see if the video is played on normal speed. Towards the end of the video, at frames 9306 through 9368, a person with a US military cap temporarily pokes about a quarter of his left head into the video.

His neck, left ear and part of his cap and visor can be seen. We have prepared an animated gif with just the relevant frames that clearly shows this at Animated Photo 7. Look at the right hand side as someone with a military cap, possibly with a second video camera, pokes his head into the video. Compare this animated gif with the MP whose cap is circled on Photo 4.

Don > It strikes me as unlikely any sane person would waste their time trying to save something they didn't love.

I fully agree. My comment to Ray was predicated on his own statement that he was the "odd man out" in his class and that he was regarded as a "Marxist" because he was anti the Vietnam war. Clearly, he regarded himself as being different to the majority of his peers.

Even today, a non-American, like myself, finds it worth a comment that a considerable number of Americans still support the Iraq war and there is no doubt that most did in its early days.

Therefore, one must conclude that making war is part of the general American psyche and those who are opposed to it are in the minority and are thus not "American", certainly as "America" is today. Hence my suggestion to Ray that the "America" he loves is in his dreams.

> there's a huge difference between hating America and hating those who would destroy America.

I presume only an American can answer that because, to an outsider, it seems America is destroying itself -- or possibly already has.
