The phone looks lile a cross between a Nokia 3650 and a Nokia 6600. We think a 3G Series 60 phone could be just what is required to give 3G a boost. Given how keen Nokia were to demonstrate their suport for 3G at GSM the emergence of this phone is perhaps not suprising. The thought of UTMS data speeds on a Series 60 smartphone will have many people bouncing up and down with anticipation. With the addition of a MP camera and the Series 60 software base this is likely to be a very popular phone indeed. The style looks good too. It does have the bulge of the 3650, but has the keypad layout of the popular Nokia 6600 / 6620. This phone in reality is a 3G version of the 6600 with upgraded camera funtionality (like the 7610).Nokia are likely to announce another 4-8 Series 60 devices this year. << More information and pictures here: >> Charlie by Nokia – Another One-Megapixel Smartphone Mobile-Review 18 May 2004mobile-review.com Throughout this year Nokia would introduce some 16 new devices to the European market. Step by step we share with you the info on novelties we’ve got. Unfortunately reviews on such devices will appear sooner than that on already announced Nokia 7610, 5140, as at the moment there are no qualified reviews on the latter freely available. So far, we offer you early photos of the device and later write about it in details. In September there would be released several smartphones by Nokia – now we can introduce one of them. It comes under the code name Charlie NPI5 and differs from existing smartphones (for example, Nokia 6600) in the support of UMTS networking and in 1.3-megapixel camera. The current version (build 3 and lower) carries 1-megapixel matrix, developers promise that this defect would be eliminated in June following the release of the new version. As for the quality of photos it can be compared with that of Nokia 7610, nothing more to notice. The built-in flash, being just a fashion feature, doesn’t improve the quality. The battery is the same as in Nokia 6600 (BL-5C), the same for the operating system. In all the model represents a constructive improvement of Nokia 7610. Almost forgot to mention the hot change of MMC-cards. The smartphone supports this solution for cards intended for dual-voltage. The official list of the cards supported will be wider, if earlier the maker claimed up to 128 MB of memory for the steady work, so now the device could “read” cards featuring up to 256 MB. With the intended price of 500 Euro the device will be another niche one from image solutions. Expect the official announcement of the model in the mid summer. For business users the company has prepared other smartphone with similar functions, but in different shell. << - Eric -
