<<< what would you do to get boots on the ground intelligence....????>>>

I don't have any background whatsoever in this stuff, but sometimes (once in a blue moon) people outside of the field, will think outside of the box and see something that you couldn't see up close.

IMO our intelligence is well funded (of course, everybody and anybody in any administrative capacity will tell you that they are not well funded and they need a lot more money - that is the nature of buearacies) - with a budget (that is secret) that is probably greater than Afganistan's GDP.

I also think that they are probably very good at what they do. They are probably better at what they do than anyone else in the world. Of course, no matter how good they do, there will always be critics who think they should do better.

The problem, IMO, is that our intelligence community is a tremendous asset, but we do not know how to utilize it properly.

It does not matter which (party or administration) the people at the top are either political appointees or deep into politics.

Nevertheless that is our system. We aren't Nazi's where we could command everything to run perfectly. Our system was not designed that way. You just have to roll with the punches and in the long term we are better off for it.
