Sorry. I did not mean my post as a slur against Israel, but to show the incompetency of General Spector and those loyal to him. He had no compunction of strafing and rocketing an innocent crew, but now is a different man???? As far as the Liberty is concerned I have read the Israel side, and have seen a documentary of the Liberty's version as attested to by the crew. The Arab ship, the pilots and MTBs claimed they thought they were shooting, at bore no resemblance to the Liberty. I lean toward the US side of the events. The US may very well have told the Israelis we were not in the area, but I doubt they knew the Israelis were planning to attack the Liberty. The Liberty's position there was to be top secret, to monitor the oncoming war and when it was attacked we, the US, ignored it's pleas for help. According to the record a flight of planes from a nearby carrier went aloft, but were recalled on orders from Washington. That recall, as much as the attack, was what the Liberty crew was angry about. Good men died because of politics. To this day the crew has not been vindicated as to there limited actions in the event.
