Unfortunately as Gottfried's chart of AMAT vs Semi bookings shows bookings can rise even as AMAT falls before the peak:

home.comcast.net

Is this history repeating again?

Two things I note in that valuable chart:

1.)The Totals for the current uptrend has exceeded the 'aborted' recovery in early 2002. But more importantly that Total isn't even 1/2 of the Bookings Total in each of the last 2 'more normal' cycles on '95 and '97. (I'll just ignore '99 and '2000)

2.) 8 successive periods of increases. The exact same as the early 2002 'aborted' recovery. Hmmmmm? Wonder if we get a 9th successive increase if the analysts use that single event to jump back on the bandwagon for what they might then perceive to be an extended cycle?
