The problem is, to repeat, none of us knows (a) whether the numbers are real, (b) what the context in the report is, (c) what the questions/measures were for the tests, (d) whether thost tests/measures were appropriate for special ed kids, and so on.

I have been discussing education with you for a couple of years now. You know very well that newspaper article is going to discuss the conclusions rather than give you 5000 words of the above kind of explanation to nitpick. They quote the NYSD Bureaucrats who defend the results rather than claim the Post is lying. But that makes no difference to you. The facts are "not proven" unless they are in a suitable left wing source. And then you would fall back on your other nitpicks.

And I know every time I put up a media article you disagree with that you will take this approach rather than discuss the subject.

It's obvious that Special Ed in NYC is a failure. But you don't want to start with that fact. It's fun watching you squirm. :>)

John,
Here is a teaching story for you.

We have a friend with a Down's Syndrome brother in his mid 20's. Two year's ago, at a church function he told his parents he would like to read. Teacher's gave up on him in the third grade. Karen, my wife, (13 years 1st grade teacher) volunteered to teach him to read. Three months ago, before we moved, the young man read a bible passage from the church pulpit.

Not only can he read. She took him to the library once a week and taught him how to get around there. His parents told us he still makes a weekly visit to return and select his own new books. His speaking has improved dramatically. He plays games on his laptop too because now he can read the instructions.

BTW Karen quit teaching to start her own business. Presently she is looking for a new volunteer program to assist. She told me recently she is thinking about working in an old folks home here. I told her she can do that job from home.
