"Peace" is actually Israel's worst curse --I've dwelled on that issue already: Message 17201176 Message 16679351 Message 16666836 You naively believe that the stratocrats who rule Israel lament about their dire state of affairs because it somehow precludes the dawn of a peaceful, prosperous and enlightening Israel... in blissful harmony with all its former Arab foes --LOL! But let's face it: Israel is but an anachronistic caricature of the nation-state... it's a monster relic of the XIXth century. The notion that such an archaic institution as "the nation-state" can provide shelter and TOTAL protection to a "persecuted minority" is a lunacy! And that's why there're still more Jews living --and thriving-- in the US, Europe, and South Africa (140,000) than there'll ever be in Israel! As far as Herzl's utopia for a Jewish homeland is concerned, Israel is, and will remain, a fiasco --an aborted fantasy... After all, even if the threat of anti-Jewish pogroms were rising again, Israel would be no safeguard --most likely the US of A will. The best way to secure the livelihood and the rights of minorities is to work thru international cooperation, institutions and watchdogs (Amnesty Intl.), not to set up new nation-states to herd and fence them behind an illusory sense of security... Just take the Gypsies: how do Europeans manage to guarantee the Gypsies' rights? EU authorities have asked the Czech Republic, Hungary, etc. to stop discriminate against them and favor their integration into mainstream society. No one in Europe has ever called for carving out a Gypsieland in the midst of India! Now you claim Palestinians have got nothing else to lose... well, I'm afraid they still have an important thing to lose --their dignity as a sovereign, unyielding people, along with their religious claim over the al-Aqsa mosque... The day they stop fighting, they'll end up like all of America's Indian tribes... herded off into trailer parks, begging the Israelis their right to work in garment sweatshops.... From a cynical point of view, we can say that permanent, Orwellian warfare against "barbaric Muslims" is Israel's best incentive to lure Jewish youths from around the world... Why else would they take the trouble to settle there? I mean, except for the religious nuts? Computer programming? Hotel managing? Orange tree growing? Casino operating? Heck, you can do it in the US already!
