The difference between you and I is this, I know they were not following a lawful order.

Would they have been a lawful orders if the detainees were really terrorists, and you were really saving lives by treating them in this hideous fashion?

Apparently this is the style of interrogation that was designed for those detainees that were not covered by the Geneva Convention...but it was extended to Iraq. Apparently taking advantage of the Arab weakness of being embarrassed by sex.

Knowing when an order is lawful or not is not always as obvious as you put forth.

How high does the responsibility go? Guess we'll find out pretty soon.

Oral,

I tried to explain the lawful order/unlawful order to the endangered cetacean in the not-too-distant past. I believe my attempt was not successful. As you say, the distinction is lost on him (or is ignored) because it doesn't fit with his agenda (or world view).
