May I comment?

Nobody here has been able to produce a single historical example demonstrating that a negotiated settlement has ever worked with terrorists. The PLO and resident terrorist groups have certainly proven the point that terrorists never negotiate in good faith.

If Israel, after so many decades of trying to negotiate, suddenly changes course and accepts that this is a war and a fight to the death and behaves accordingly, who could ever fault them?

Why? You didn't think the author was talking about the IDF and not the Israelis in general. The words he used were "Israelis" and "Palestinians".
