al Qaeda is an international group, lorne. Bin Laden's a Saudi multimillionaire. The 9-11 pilots were from various countries and had ties to various other nations. Without answering your questions one by one, I think al Qaeda is delighted to see the US devoting so much of our military power in Afghanistan, not to mention to see how much yelling and screaming Americans are doing among ourselves. It has the effect of being a diversionary tactic while they plan their next attack.
