The vapidly uncritical use of nonsense verbiage like "cultural Marxism" is what I call "angry white male syndrome." Not that all white males are "angry white males." At least, I hope not.

Why not say what you mean? There are things you think are important, that others used to think are important, that are not being given the importance you think they deserve anymore.

I would be willing to entertain an argument that the baby is being thrown out with the bathwater.

The fact that people use silly euphemisms like "cultural Marxism" indicates that they have lost even the power of coherent speech.

For example, one of the major bug-a-boos of those who use the phrase "cultural Marxism" is feminism. They actually are stupid enough to equate Marxism with feminism. Reminds me of the 1960's, when they or their fathers were arguing that integration was a Marxist plot. I have to laugh, but it's not funny.

Interesting post, Frank.

What conservatives call 'cultural marxism' is what they see as application of the form of the romantic argument about "class inequality" to gender, race, etc.

They think it's a sign of vapidly uncritical thinking.

A bit of disagreement. I don't see Marxism as a form of a "romantic argument" even if one puts its roots in Hegelian idealism rather than Marx's own claim to have turned same on its head. The class inequality stuff was pretty hard headed. So, why call it "romantic"?

As for some conservatives using the term cultural Marxism to describe their opponents, I really only see it as inadmissable McCarthyism. If they don't like feminism, fine, argue with feminism. If they don't like the civil rights movement, argue with it. If they don't like the gay rights movement, fine, argue with it. But the conservatives who use this strategy, such as Lind, are simply trying to use the age old political gambit of smear tactics.
