Steve, Wppss also taught many of us to read a prospectus very carefully. The project was supposedly "US govt. guaranteed." And some of it was. But not all. Which one you buy in a series can make a big difference. <G>

Steve,
Of course my comment on "stupid public policy" was very tongue in cheek. The whole energy issue is highly politicized, making it difficult to separate fact from fiction. And I agree that the result is a shameful waste of resources.

Of course we may be seeing only the tip of the "stupidity" iceberg. The new Energy Bill has been stalled in Congress until after the election, along with Social Security reform, pension reform, medicare reform, etc.

I can hardly wait to see 2005!!

Dave

Steve, which NG fired plant are you referring to in Washington that Dynergy walked away from? Last fall I was down in Goldendale and could see a NG plant that had been abandoned very near its own completion. That project died because it was to provide electricity to the Alcoa plant there, which, although it had been in business for a number of years, died because of the Enron energy market manipulations (the gift of poverty AND unemployment from those fine human beings).

everybody wants more coal now -- it will probably be the same -- there is always a frenzy. I am not sure why.

today the excuse is interest rates may be going up ...

Most outfits -- IOUs want to own the first project in the area - and get it into rate base as soon it can practically be allowed ...

I think in a couple of years, there will be deals galore on NG fired generation.
