The other important function is to have a pulse in case the President is taken home by God.

Thousands of Republicans vets switching parties to vote for Kerry. Maybe hundreds of thousands. The mayor of Wisconsin town today showed up at a Kerry event to announce he's switching. The man had been a lifelong Republican and is a veteran. There were tears in his eyes as he announced he can no longer in good conscience vote for these dishonest neocons who have actually shafted veterans.

McCain may team up with Kerry. There's a chance. Remember they see eye to eye on most issues and trust each other deeply. Kerry has a very strong relationship with McCain which he does not have with Edwards or any of the others.

Also, McCain is a patriot and this teaming with Kerry would really unify the country. It would effectively end the neocon coup d'etat on American democracy by the extreme rightwing fat cats, polluters and anti womens rights Baptists. That unholy alliance is a minority who have somehow taken over the country. McCain dislikes them as much as Kerry does.

That said, Kerry does not need McCain to beat Bush.
