That's a fair criticism of Kerry. Certainly the Dems are also to blame, at least partially, for our ME oil dependence and terrorism problem. One of the first moves Reagan did when he came to power was cut alternative energy research by 80% and do away with the synfuels program. Republicans also killed CAFE milage standards. Those policies were great for oil company interests, but in the long run have cause blow back like our terrorism problem. The fact is today emerging technologies are capable of reducing our dependance on oil consideralbly. Here's a great example:

A new Dutch invention can make cars, busses and other vehicles no less than 50 percent more efficient and thus more environmentally friendly. Better still, the technology is already available; it all comes down to a smart combination of existing systems.

All I can say, is Kerry isn't bound by the oil cabal that Bush is in league with. There's no doubt that Kerry would be at least marginally better for alternative energy and kicking our oil habit than Bush has been. He couldn't be any worse. I know bush proposed the hydrogen initiative and that's good, but there's things that could be done right now, like raising milage standards, giving more incentives for buying fuel efficiant cars, promoting biofuels throught the tax code and other incentives, etc..
