Wow, how things have changed. When I was in H.K. the American Club was ensconced somewhere in the Hilton Hotel, which I hated because it had taken over my old parking space on the Murray Parade Ground, free except for the H.K.$30 monthly fee to the guy who washed the car and made sure my spot was reserved for me.

Hi Jay - in case you don't feel like a) taking the membership and b) staying away from the next occasion, I'd dare to pass the hat around.

The occasion is just too delicious to miss and I'd guess you'd be ready to sacrifice yourself pro bono of the thread.

My off-the-cuff remark: this is far better than watching Titanic - you know, the 1st class scenes). But then again, if you call my current colour of the face envy-green, you're dead right;)

regards

dj

PS: to show Im still not brain-dead, I'm reading Kafka's Amerika - it's getting to close to the 2nd month at this chore.

btw it's great fiction. It's just that I'm a lousy reader.

Reverse indicators like that of the American Club group should be quite useful as seers ranging from Buffett to J. Chen all agree that we should be "lonely", out of fashion etc. But sometimes there is a problem determining what the fashion is. For example I think people are going unnecessarily crazy about biotechnology(very high risk) and nanotechnology(profits mostly look quite distant). Am I lonely or are they? Are we gold and oil lovers lonely or is everybody and his sister thinking that way? Is the gold is useless and oil will promptly find the $20 level crowd the lonely minority?
