<<Have you served in the US military? I did and I can tell you that many people who served did so for the same reason I did. Patriotic Americans have a sense of duty and honor to serve the country >>

>> Have you served in the US military? I did and I can tell you that many people who served did so for the same reason I did.

I did too. So don't give me any sanctimonious bs.. And I can tell you the only people who were there that were not drafted, and who were not un-employed were there because a judge told them they had a choice. Enlist, or go to jail for some misdemeaner or possible mild felony.

>> Patriotic Americans have a sense of duty and honor to serve the country as Congress and/or the President sees fit while in exchange for these services the volunteer learns skills to enable them to get a start on a career.

The patriotism is just a ruse to get people to surrender their moral judgement. If called on to testify, I can swear with clear conscience that I did not encounter ONE SINGLE PERSON below e-5 in Fort Campbell, Fort Sam Housten, Fort Sill, or Fort Lewis who gave patriotism as their reason for being in the army. And there was hardly anyone who wasn't impatiently counting the days till they were short.

>> Wait time will prove me right, their will be tremendous bloodshed in the Mideast over the next several years..

Time has already proven you right. There is tremendous bloodshed every day in the middle east.

>> Oil consuming nations wont be held hostage to the attacks of Islamofascists. They will be hunted down and exterminated. Iran will be the next nation suffering a wake up call.

No US president will commit political suicide by invading Iran to get oil. It is easier to build nucular power plants.

I just don't see how the Saudi ruling family can last with their repression. That society is ready to explode. I have no idea how it will settle out, or how long that will take.

Mr. Tillman accomplished what he wanted, he wanted to serve his country. It is not uncommon for people in the military to die from unfortunate accidents such as friendly fire.

I think that's a noble motivation.

But why, in a mistaken, "friendly" firefight between two American units, did the Army press officers deem it necessary to "make him a hero" and award him a silver star, all the while putting forth the story that he died charging up the hill toward Afghan ambushers?

I guess the U.S. army thinks it needs a little more fervor than normal to get the average U.S. youngster to submit a few years of his life to the whims of a government run by men from families that seem to lack the "patriotism" that motivated you.

Or am I wrong that the war wimps kids don't serve, and for sure don't serve in positions that leave them the most likely to get killed?

I'll buy into your "sense of duty and honor to serve their country as Congress and/or the President sees fit" when I start seeing the children of the President and the Congress enlist. Until then I'll think that it's a matter of generally poor people looking for a way out of a dismal life who are enlisting and hoping to learn skills, see the world and make a grubstake for their life after service.

By the way, aren't you mixing metaphors when you say; "Oil consuming nations wont be held hostage to the attacks of Islamofascists? Will we suffer "tremendous bloodshed" because of oil, or is it because of attacks? Or maybe we should consider any use of THEIR natural oil resources that doesn't fit our prosperity plan as an "attack?"

And even if you're right, how you gonna "hunt down and exterminate" Islamofascists? Will you make them wear stars of David on their sleeves or do you think they'll just announce their allegiances so you can kill them. Or maybe you want to kill anyone that LOOKS like they could be an Islamofascist.

That's one 5-paragraph post of yours that seems long on emotion and short on logic on three points. I'm reminded of an old saying; "Just cause you say it don't mean it's true."
