Sig dropping the octane number of your gasoline could cause early demise of your engine due to pre-ignition and knock. Modern engines have engine management systems which will do quite a lot to save you, but they can only do so much.

You'd be better to add ethanol, or methanol [doing the blending right to avoid phase separation and ensuring materials compatibility - methanol is damaging to some materials].

Mixing diesel in is better than nothing I suppose, if the engine doesn't matter as much as the movement.

My Rover's documentation claims I need the hi-test gas but I've burned mid-range for years with no problems. I did this after coming across some posts about it on Rover enthusiast websites. They actually claim that Rovers can burn the low grade but I've never been brave enough to try it.

I have all the fancy electronic emissions gadgets but the engine is based on a very old design originally used in Pontiacs and Oldsmobiles circa 1961.
