Wrong. The United States, in fact, did support Stalin BEFORE the United States was at war with Germany! The Lend Lease Act was passed by Congress in either March or April of 1941. The United States began sending equipment to the Soviets in October 1941. October 1941 comes before December 1941. The fact that the United States was already trying to sink German ships in the Atlantic, and were supplying Britain and the Soviets, is probably a reason that Hitler went ahead and declared war on the U.S. in December 1941.

re:"Your analogy is completely inappropriate. We never supported Stalin in a war with another country. In WWII we were allies against a common enemy."

The United States, Britain and the Soviet Union were in fact Allies, and it was on design. One of the problems, was that several highly placed members of FDR's staff were Soviet Agents, and as a result, the Soviets had an advantage in the negotiations that determined Post War Europe.

re: "The difference between a separate entity and a puppet are clear too. We never were able to get the Soviets to do our bidding. In fact during the war and post war period the Soviets expanded their empire and communism. They were largely able to do that because we took care of the western front for them. In a way we were a strange ally to Stalin...but it was not by design."

Saddam, was not an American puppet.

We never supported Stalin in a war with another country I see this has been dealt with satisfactorily by another poster.

We never were able to get the Soviets to do our bidding. The same is true of Saddam.

In the case of Saddam he was in the position of asking the US for permission. That would be a puppet. He even asked for permission to invade Kuwait. Many think Saddam thought he had our permission in a defacto manner, as the ambassador relayed that the US took no exception to his invasion.

That's ridiculous. Saddam and the State Dept. misread one another's intentions as should be evident based on the immediate American reaction to his invasion.

I'm posting the truth on Memorial Day

You white-washed Saddam and said the US, not him, were responsible for his crimes against the Iraqi people:

No the Iraqi people were the innocent victims of our aggression not Saddam. Just as they were the victims of our supporting Saddam and allowing him to become the tyrant in the first place.

Message 20178437

That was a despicable anti-American lie.
