We never supported Stalin in a war with another country
We were allied with Russia against a common enemy...Hitler.

That's ridiculous. Saddam and the State Dept. misread one another's intentions as should be evident based on the immediate American reaction to his invasion.

That is clear by history, but what I said was that Saddam was in a position of asking for permission, which he did. Kuwait was not invaded secretly. Saddam announced his intentions, and I believe it was April Gilespe who said the US takes no position. Had the US told Saddam upfront not to Invade Kuwait, and that serious consequences would arrise by such action, it would likely have never been staged. In Saddam's war with Iran, the US encouraged Saddam. Aided Saddam. The US also aided the Iranians.

You white-washed Saddam and said the US, not him, were responsible for his crimes against the Iraqi people:

"No the Iraqi people were the innocent victims of our aggression not Saddam. Just as they were the victims of our supporting Saddam and allowing him to become the tyrant in the first place."

I never white washed Saddam. I said the Iraqi people were victims of Saddam. Saddam was supported by the US as a hedge against the Soviets, and against the Iranians. The Iraqi people suffered from Saddam's tyranny...no doubt about it.

And when it came time to oust Saddam, it was the innocent Iraqi people that took the brunt of the attacks. Over 10,000 civilians killed, more likely, and 10's of thousands injured and maimed. Saddam went underground long before the war started. Today he's alive and getting three squares a day. He did not take the brunt of the invasion as the innocents did. That was my point. There's no white washing here.
