Joe, a turista visiting the small villages in old Mexico, decides to take a stroll outside the village and starts walking by a field where he sees this young boy dozing off, next to him there is a cow munching away at the grass... as Joe walks by the boy, he feels the urge to ask him what time is it, as he had forgotten his watch in the hotel...

the boy grabs the cow's udder, balances it up and down and says... "it is 10:12 señor" with 100% certainty...

Joe takes a step back and surprised he says to himself how the hell did he do that??

He keeps on going, yet he cannot stop thinking about the boy and his ability to tell the time by touching the cow's udder... so after a few minutes, he decides to go back and ask him again... the boy does the exact same motion, balances the udder up and down and says... "it is 10:45 señor"

At this point he really is curious to know how he does it... so he runs back to his hotel, grabs his watch... and goes back to where the child is. Once again, he asks... what time is it? (this time he has his watch on)... without hesitation the boy does the same thing.... balances the udder up and down and tells him... "it is 11:07 señor"

Joe looks at his watch... the boy is spot on, to the minute... 11:07...

Joe decides he has to know the trick... so he kneels down to the boy's eye level and asks him....

look I have asked you in three different occasions what time it was and you have told me correctly the exact time by touching the cow's udder... how is it that you can tell the time by doing that?? is it the temperature? is it how full of milk the cow is, is it the weight ? how do you know ? please tell me....

the boy smiles at Joe and says.... Oh no señor, no temperature or no milk, I just have to move the udder upwards a little so I can see the clock way out in the distance by the cathedral steeple... that's all...

It's really amazing how Guadalajara, in Jalisco, has attracted both Mexicans who are retiring after working in America as well as retired Americans wanting a better lifestyle on their retirement income.

The Lake Chapala neighborhoods are quite luxurious and the city itself has been built into a recreation of an American city surrounding the quaint old colonia center.

While the only gasoline available in Mexico is Pemex, Guadalajara features ExxonMobil, Shell, Chevron and BP. There is one of the largest shopping malls I have ever seen, featuring real goods as well as inexpensive nice fakes of most brand name goods, as well as the Tlaquepaque shopping district. Very nice restaurants as well as the usual selection of Pizza Hut, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Pollo Loco (as well as local knock-offs Pollo Allegro, El Pollo Pepe, and my favorite tongue in cheek name El Pollo Norteño "the northern chicken" in reference to American style Pollo Loco taste).

It's a short, inexpensive, 45 minute flight from either Mexico City or coastal cities like Puerta Vallarta or Acapulco.

If I were a retired worker from Mexico that's where I'd retire. Anyone who'd stay in Southern California on a limited budget deserves their hellish existence.
