RtS, agreed - what institutions do is key. It is not at all clear to me that they are interested in AMAT now, in spite of the relatively low valuation and good forward prospects of the company. I read Cary's opinion with respect and interest, but think he has too much implied confidence that institutions will step in again. The right time to buy based on fundamentals was months ago - yet institutions bailed instead. They will have to believe in a very long cycle of increasing bookings to buy now. That requires a drastic change in their thinking and the tacit admission they made a mistake.

Re: Institutions will decide

NO! The company's product line, innovation of its people, etc etc. will decide the success or lack thereof of AMAT or any company. You ascribe way too much importance to the institutions. If the company executes well, as I believe AMAT will over time, the institutions will have no choice but to buy the stock.

I really do not care what the institutions do or think....I only care what the vision of company management is.
