If it was 1940 & you were living in Europe, your interminable planning strategy would in effect appease Hitler.

You living in a dream world. In 1940 the amount of planning that went into the war effort was massive. The number of highly skilled people needed to run a war of that magnitude dwarfs what is available today. We had more mathematicians, physicists, and engineers planning strategies then, than we have today. Yes we do have the computer today ...that has streamlined tasks and made bombs smart. But you need to know the level of effort by very bright people to make success of any war was much greater then than it is today.

I say that we would be much better served by some of that old fashioned strategic thinking right now.

Say...do you know who was one of the biggest supporters of the UN and NATO? Ronald Reagan.

There's nothing wrong with having strong alliances and good strategy...in many wars it was all we had, and we won.
