Cloning would be changing the cell in the saliva in to something different then what it currently is.
So would mitosis, or the hormones of the womb, or viral combination, or any other chemical the cell encountered. There are many pathways of celluar change that can lead to an adult. Evolution has pruned the "natural" options to one, but that doesn't make the other paths imposible, they are just not currently represented in the genome. They are represented in the extended information that now affects human development.
