He should cut defense spending by 2/3.

We don't need a bigger defense ... the "war on terrorism" is as much a fiction as the "war on communism" was. Too many of our tax dollars are being stolen by the corrupt military-industrial complex that has had a stranglehold on our nation for half a century.

Kerry is very-very strong on defense. And that means much smarter defense. Pay attention. The threats we face today are not from huge armies, they are from small cells and an occasional rogue nation.

Kerry would properly go after those threats along with our allies and wipe them out. He would also go after the loose nukes and WMD's in the former Soviet countries.

You should read his book "The New War" and read his speeches on defense, nuclear proliferation and counter-terrorism. He is way-way above Bush in this department.

Bushies point to old votes in the senate but you can literally pick any senator and find votes against almost anything at one time or another. Also, everything Kerrry voted against, he also voted FOR in a better bill, except MX Missile which was a huge waste of money everyone agreed should be canned.

It was Cheney most of all who used to boast of the peace dividend, and Bush Sr. who closed most of the military bases. Kerry voted to save money on Cold War programs we no longer needed. Plus in the early 90's we had no visible enemy. Bottomline though, Kerry voted for the biggest defense increase of all time and the military serving us now came out of the 90's not Bush's term.

On top of this, Kerry is Silver Star winning combat hero and Bush is anything but.
