re: You always felt that Reagan was a genuine good guy. He had a great soothing effect on the country. And he was a great speaker as well.

Same could be said for Clinton, who was as, if not more popular.

But Clinton was a little more fiscally responsible.

It was Reagan who planted the seeds of our current troubles.

Reagan was just the first sock-puppet president ... at least in our lifetime. It was the same group of neocons who were the cause of our trouble then as it is now. Kristol and Negroponte and Ollie North and Poindexter were all playing the same games with Iran and Nicaragua that they are today. They screwed up then, and they screwed up even bigger now. Even the deficit is on steriods.

RE:"It was Reagan who planted the seeds of our current troubles. It was Mr. Reagan who apparently thought he was above the law. It was Mr. Reagan whose activities were subject to a number of congressional hearings and who got his hands slapped on at least two occasions."

Ted, ted, ted... Our current troubles go back a lot further than Reagan. I understand you are young and can't remember much further back than Clinton. What you read is likely riddled with revisionist history.

If you are going to object to something I've say, then provide a counter. Saying I am young or reading revisionist history is meaningless and accomplishes nothing.

RE:"So don't give me this rap that Mr. Reagan was a God among men. I ain't buying it."

Of course Reagan was no God. Stop listening to that stuff on TV or where-ever. Like every President he made mistakes...but the general feeling Reagan gave was of great hope and positiveness. Coming off of Carter, this lifted he nation from feeling like a loser to that of a winner.
Our country and any country for that matter needs fortitude. Not to continually tear it self apart with negativity as the Dems and libs would have us do.

If that's what Reagan did for people, then that's fine. Unfortunately, he had a dark side......and that colors my opinion of him. I might add that each of us has a dark side.......however, there are degrees. A leader can be great and have a dark side, and not have that dark side detract from his greatness.
