RE:"Same could be said for Clinton, who was as, if not more popular."

True, Clinton had the smooth " I feel your pain" stuff down good. Not as good an uplifter as Reagan though. Unfortunately for Clint, his personal life caught up with him and he got caught in perhaps the greatest lie/joke of the century. Morality was never a question with Reagan anywhere near his political life.

RE:"But Clinton was a little more fiscally responsible"

I would say thats basically true except one big tax cut Clint signed. Also Reagan had to deal with a lot worse than Clinton did (economically) when he first got into office. Also had to deal with a democrat Congress. So he could cut taxes but couldn't cut spending...result big deficit.

Now, with Reagan you always wondered if his mind was still there...but he always seemed to pull the verbal rabbit out of the hat to reassure everyone he was still sharp.

But Clinton was a little more fiscally responsible.

More leftist propaganda.

It is easy to be more "fiscally responsible" when you gut the military, the single biggest expenditure in the budget.

Carter left the Pentagon in dilapidated and in disarray for Reagan. Reagan/Bush rebuilt it. Clinton gutted it again. Bush is now rebuilding it again.

Makes it easy for the Left to make these disingenuous arguments. But the reality is the liberals cut spending for the most important function of government -- protecting our nation.

When Clinton took office, we had just had a military buildup in the Gulf consisting of 500,000 men. Now, it has been alleged by the Left that we can't sustain military operations in Afghanistan and the Gulf at the same time, a total of well under 200,000 men.
