Bush press conference now.
He's self-destructing. Making jokes when questions are serious. Rambling. Telling his bike story gun story, .
If they cover this one up they are good.
Maybe he's just tipsy.

I am coming around to the position that the best way to handle Islamist terrorism really is through excellent police work

Police work doesn't answer the countries that are the major generators of Islamist extremism right now: Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. The first two openly support and export it; Saudi Arabia uses it as a tool of its civil war (cf. Doran's FA article), and Egypt exports the Muslim Brotherhood.

It's the ideologies. It's the countries that export it. Police work is just swatting mosquites; the question is, how to drain the swamp?

Israel is just a side issue where the Islamists have taken over a previously existing nationalist border conflict. Israel is only the "little Satan"; it's America, as the current stand in for the West and the Colonial Powers, that is the "great Satan". The main issue is the Islamists vs the rest of the globe; they want to stop the globe so they can get off and found their little 7th century theocratic paradise.
