Not that I am any big fan of French politics, but I'm growing tired of the incessant attacks on French people from folks on the right. There's a lot of folks in this country of French heritage. No, of course I didn't know that you are 1/4 French. If I did, I'd call you "Frenchie" instead of "Killer Whale." Obviously you've never suffered discrimination. I'm American, but my ancestors are German, Russian, and Latvian on one side (Jewish --we've had issues with each other and my other bloodline -- some notable ones around 1917, others in the 1930's and '40's, up to the '80's when Reagan helped them get straightened out), and Irish, Scottish, and English on the other (both Catholic and Protestant; we've warred with each other since before 1099 and many still hate each other, ya'know). But here I am, not bitching about it like you do. I know discrimination. I'm also considered a white male, which doesn't help in this day and age of reverse discrimination, where discrimination against my "type" is favored public policy to make up for all the benefits I've enjoyed in the past <g>. I've been discriminated against in subtle ways by each of my own ethnic and religious groups, when they thought I was a member of the other. Enough so I could probably write a short book about it, which I would do in a light, humorous, and upbeat way. I've also been discriminated against in the employment realm because of affirmative action in favor of women and minorities. Compared to you, Frenchie, I've got something to gripe about. Do I gripe about it? No. Grow up and stop sniveling. That goes for your 1/4 Frenchness and your 3/4 killer whale.<g> Btw, in the summer of 1978 while vacationing in France, and tensions were high over Algerian immigrants, a government employee in Paris made the most gratuitous anti-semitic remark to me that I can recall in any of my travels at any time, anywhere. And he didn't even know my name. Do I attribute it to his Frenchness? No. Should I? Hmm...
