I think the answer would differ from person to person. If you were a Ba'athist, even if you did not really believe in Ba'athism, but were only faking it, life in Iraq was not at all bad. If you were an enemy of the state, life was horrible.

Given that much of what we "knew" about life in Iraq before the war came from the same people as our "knowledge" of WMD, I wonder about the rest.

Yes, there have been mass graves, which tend to support the stories. Dead bodies tell a great deal of truth that cannot be spun away.

How many of those dead bodies date back to the Iran-Iraq war, or suppression of the 1991 uprising?
