Kyros, read the transcript and think what it means! When interests of powerful people are affected, they pull the levers which suit their interests.

I even predicted it in discussions with my BP buddy. That's science! Make the hypothesis, figure out the theory, make the prediction, see if the prediction matches reality. Bingo!

You know that there really are conspiracies, I'm sure. Just because people are paranoid doesn't mean people aren't out to get them. Saddam might be paranoid, but he had good reason.

Yes, Saddam could have withdrawn, but good traps include using the personality characteristics of the victim against them, just as Osama used the characteristics of the USA against the USA to destroy the Twin Towers, using 19 young guys with box-cutters and one-way tickets. The USA provided the rest; aircraft, open cockpit doors, an aircrew policy of surrender to hijackers, fuel, tall buildings, pilot training, etc.

Why would Baker have instructed Glaspie to say it was up to Saddam to decide on Kuwait? With masses of Iraqi troops on the border, which the USA could see and count!

Surely the more sensible approach would have been to say that the USA really didn't think it would be a good idea to invade Kuwait as it would lead to regional instability and general war, to Iraq's detriment. Even I can figure that out. Maybe I should get a job running USA foreign policy.

Another one was that the US deliberately bombed the Chinese embassy in Belgrade, if I recall.

The odds are that we did bomb them on purpose.

The reason was that they were violating their neutrality and retransmitting Serbia military radio traffic to Serb military units.

Of course, I can't prove this, and that's the way it should be.. But if it's true the Chinese were doing this, then bombing them was a clear signal that their interference would have consequences.
