It doesn't matter. while the rest of America is focused on Iraq, I'll be leading a group of my Vietnam Vets to take over Canada (I figure 20 of us will be enough) in order to corner the cut rate drug market.

Hi rose,
I missed the French debate... family issue but got most of the English one on CBC radio ;o) last night....

Here is a PM to another poster....

On Iraq. I agree with you. (it should not have happened)

Interestingly the Social Conservatism of some elements (I believe a minority) in the New Conservatives bothers me mightily also. I missed the French debate but managed to get 90% of the English debate last night o CBC (I do like the CBC ;o) while driving back to Toronto.
A few points:...

I'm surprised Martin scored as well as he did on the Ipsos-Reed poll. Note that the policies of the Conservatives and NDP were ranked 1 and 2.. so that gives me pause to feel reassured that many Canadians think as I do...

Layton:
I was frankly disappointed by Jack Layton's performance... Here is why...
1) on the C20 issue with Duceppe Layton basically said lets just all sing Kumbaya and move on... He also at one point says hey !! I was born in Montréal too which Duceppe appropriately counters so what !! LOL...
2)on the senate issue with Harper Layton was simply dogmatic calling Harper's 'elected' senate lobbyists and patronage appointments etc which of course is true of the present structure but would not be if they were elected like MPs.
3) again with Harper on health care and specifically private delivery of healthcare... Layton was (you pick) dogmatic, disingenuous, or a buffoon with no grasp of the healthcare system... Harper clearly stated private services paid by medicare.. so available to every single Canadian... but Layton countered with rhetoric..
4)On the big positive side he brought up proportional representation as definite project... (Martin seemed to jump on this bandwagon as an afterthought) and of course I agree with many of his social policies but spending must be controlled of course...

Harper:
Cool calm... But yes he he as that buggaboo of Iraq...
On Harper and Iraq... I was a vociferous detractor of his (Harper) stance and booster of Chrétien (for all the man's myriad's faults no one can deny he is patriotic ;o) on the Iraq affair. The posts are a matter of public record on the Canadian Free for All Thread..
but how about the Liberal attack adds saying Harper will spend billions on Aircraft carriers ? I hope no 'educated' folks fall for that one... LOL...
In a nutshell I will posit the following..
Harper is forced to deal with the abortion issue.. He introduces legislation that sets some ground rules ie... (pulling this out of my hat) not after 100 days of gestation.. unless serious health risk to mother is evident then all bets are off.. as an example... Pro Choice groups are not thrilled but most grudging agree a fair compromise.. the social conservatives in his party are incensed... average Canadians are relieved... Harper has now successfully excised the problematic social conservative element... made the Conservatives a normal viable option for Canadians as they should be... the alternative is political suicide... at least in Canada..
I also agree with him that Churches should not be forced to recognise gay marriages. That is Church and State meddling and neither is correct... As far as the definition of marriage legally I'm ambivalent... if that is what it takes to afford gay couples all the rights and privileges of heterosexual couples than so be it... but stay out of all religions.

Martin:
Basically avoided MANY answers and counters with questions of hs own. Very negative in my view. He was not even in the same league as the other three.

Duceppe... I'm sorry I missed the French debate... He is actually in between the Conservatives and NDP... a shame he has no national vision for Canada... A very underrated fellow...

I voted Rae... so NDP is not within the realm of impossibility ;o) I think we will be fine as long as the Liberals:
1) Don't form the government...
2) Are NOT decimated...
