You need to have a damn good memory. <g> Congratulations on this new thread. The title of it must be like a truth serum. So here is some true "stuff" about TopCat. I'm a conservative....(I guess). At least that is what those "test" you can take on the Internet keep telling me. But, I think there is a difference between being conservative and being a radical, hate mongering, right winger. I voted for Clinton the first time around so I'm either an idiot or I have other criteria for what I think leadership is all about. Another "for instance" is that, like Ann (I think), I was intrigued by Edwards. I saw in him (even though he is far from my philosophical ideal) a person that could re-energize the nation....much like I saw in Clinton the first time before I began to see in him a lack if integrity. Edwards would have presented a tough decision for me. A person that I believe would be good at leading the country through pure charisma vs. someone that I would be more aligned with philosophically. In my opinion, Presidents (as an individual) don't really have that much influence on the direction of the country....that's one of the hallmarks of our system (yes, there are exceptions to this). Some, however, can really inspire the people and that is what Reagan did (IMO) and what Kennedy did (IMO). What about Bush? I am aligned with this President philosophically, but he can't seem to put two words together on-his-feet without blowing it. To me, that makes him very ineffective as a leader. As far as what he has done WRT economy and the War on Terrorism is, again IMO, right on....and that includes invading Iraq. How sad that we all seem to forget that SH invaded a country and even without WMD (which I am still convinced will show up), he deserved what he got....even though it was 10 years late. What about Kerry? Kerry represents to me the worst of my two basic criteria. I am at odds with him philosophically and I think he doesn't show any kind of charismatic leadership that might shift me away from my conservative orientation. Now, tonto, you have stated that you will not vote for either candidate. That's too bad. Your reason is good but, practically speaking, you ain't going to change anything by not voting and your message will be lost in the noise. I hope you will reconsider. I will vote for Bush this time, not because I really want to, but because the alternative is a pretty sad representative for the nation and (sadly) the Democratic Party. TC
