better margins --> lower cost --> lower price --> more demand

It's really not that difficult to follow.

Of course, one can always insist on repeating one's pet hypothesis, despite the fact that the company has repeatedly, officially stated it is not the case.

elmer,

Producing K8 on 130nm and selling at $100 or less is not a very profitable venture, while it is profitable on 90nm process technology, which is what I think Mike was hinting at.

OK, you're looking for the ultimate cause for higher AMD sales -- its higher yields, resulting in higher margins and higher capacity.

But I would divide it equally between higher yields (= higher capacity and lower cost) and "more competitive product", resulting in higher demand.

So you are saying CPU shipments are due for a rapid increase because of margins?

Exactly.

Clearly something is restricting sales now.

AMD's unwillingness to crank up lower priced supply in order to stimulate further demand due to cost of production and resulting margins. This assumption can be based on reasonable yield expectations w/130nm K8 die size.

JMO.
