I think its all about expectations. If we don't expect more, then we are not going to get more.

Indeed, life is much more complex today, that goes for every profession. There is more competition, and people are rising to the occassion.

We expect much more from our doctors, lawyers, and scientists - and for the most part the quality is much higher.

Quite objectively, I think everyone can agree that current day leaders are nowhere near the caliber of Thomas Jefferson and John Adams. More amazingly, the country had far fewer people to choose from in those days. But in every other field in human life, people have gotten more proficient.

I think the problem is that in every other field, we have demanaded improvements, but we have not done so in the political process.
