I'm confused by your question.

I didn't say that the meaning of "crusade" morphed. I said that our mission, the WOT morphed, making "crusade" the most appropriate term for it as it stands now. And I'm using Webster as the authority for my sense of that word.

So, given that clarification, what's your question?
